(June 15, 2026) CONCORDIA, Kan. — Fifty-eight students successfully completed the Safe Sitter® program through four classes held in May and June, gaining valuable skills in babysitting, child care, safety and emergency response.
The Safe Sitter program is designed to prepare young adolescents to be safe, responsible and confident when staying home alone, caring for younger siblings and babysitting. During the course, participants received instruction in child care techniques, behavior management, injury prevention, CPR and first aid basics and business skills for babysitters.
Students learned how to handle emergencies, respond appropriately to common child care situations and communicate effectively with both children and parents. The program also emphasized the importance of safety, responsibility and leadership.
"We are proud of these students for their commitment to learning skills that will help them care for others safely and responsibly," said Ali Slate, organizational development director and Safe Sitter instructor at North Central Kansas Medical Center. "Completing the Safe Sitter program equips them with the knowledge and confidence needed to be successful babysitters and trusted caregivers in our community."
Upon completion of the course, all 58 students received certificates recognizing their achievement and readiness to provide quality child care services.
The Safe Sitter program has helped prepare more than 1 million young people nationwide to become safer and more capable caregivers. Graduates leave the course with practical skills that benefit not only their babysitting experiences but also their personal growth and future leadership opportunities.
